Tomoko Ceramics
Meet the Maker, Tomoko Jarrell, of Tomoko Ceramics in Oakland, California.
From her studio just outside San Francisco, Tomoko hand-throws ceramic housewares including cups, bowls, plates, sugar pots and creamers adding warmth and beauty of handmade objects to our homes.
Tomoko completed a BA in Biochemistry in Tokyo, before moving to the U.S. in 1998. She started learning ceramic art privately from a friend in 2000 and has continued to refine her skills, craft and aesthetic for the last two decades. Tomoko designs privately in her studio, but is also a member of The Potters’ Studio in Berkeley, CA where she organizes pottery education opportunities between the United States and Japan.
Tomoko celebrates irregularities. Her work is 100% handmade and includes small imperfections that make each piece special, unique and one-of-a-kind. Her simple, modern and functional pottery is influenced by her Japanese heritage and easily blends with many traditional and contemporary home decor styles.
