KD Weave
Meet the Maker Kimberly Dorris, the founder and designer of KD Weave in Houston, TX.
In 2017 while stuck inside during Hurricane Harvey, Kimberly spent hours at her loom. In that creative space, she dreamt of what would become KD Weave. Kimberly uses a table loom to create her collection of handwoven washcloths, hand towels, bath towels, placemats, napkins, coasters, blankets and pillows. Her textiles come in 22 different color combinations.
From a young age, Kimberly Dorris felt at home creating with her hands. This is a passion she likely inherited from her artistic, southern, maternal and paternal grandmothers. As an adult her passion for creating with her hands grew into something more, when her husband gave her a Schacht Cricket Loom. She began weaving everything from caftans to home goods.
Today Kimberly is the designer and mastermind of KD Weave. She works with refugee women, in her Houston community, to create textiles for the home. She is proud of her brand and its commitment to providing opportunities for hardworking women from The Karenni State (between Burma and Thailand).
There is something so special about things made by hand. The imperfectness and creation of it—that a real human is behind it. It is a beautiful way to connect us. From the maker, to the buyer, to the giver, to the receiver, Kimberly and her team are creating a story together with us. Intertwined—just like the material you hold in your hands. Our story doesn’t stop after this process, but instead, it intersects when these goods are shared and used in your own home.
Whether you’re sharing a meal, choosing a gift for a friend, or just cleaning the house, Kimberly hopes you feel love and a deep comforting sense of home through her products.
Welcome to KD Weave!
“That's the thing with handmade items. They still have the person's mark on them, and when you hold them, you feel less alone.” - Aimee Bender, The Color Master: Stories
